How will teachers know about these workshops?
SWGfL will publicise these events through blog and newsgroup postings. Teachers will read the contact information in the
bookings table and, if they want to go ahead, book their LA workshop. SWGfL will not be involved at this stage. LA or venue admin staff will take these bookings.
What will workshop attendees need to bring?
Teachers are asked to bring a laptop with hardware and software that they currently use. Oscar will show you how to use your school's hardware (camera or web cam) and software. (If you have not used the with your laptop, please bring the driver disk with you.) If you do not have animation software he will give you a trial copy of I Can Animate which you can install and take away with you. Teachers should bring the admin password for their laptop to enable changes to be made. Oscar will advise teachers on hardware. Web cams will be on sale on the day. A number of laptops and web cams will be available for those teachers who do not bring equipment. These may be LA or venue equipment. Teachers should bring a memory stick to the workshop.
What facilities will the workshop venue have?
The animation workshop will be large enough to accommodate 20 teachers for a whole day. If the venue is big enough, we may be able to accommodate more than this. The teachers will have large table surfaces to allow the modelling and filming to take place. Lunch will be needed as this is a whole day course. A small number of laptops will be needed for teachers who come without.
Windows or Mac?
Oscar will show you how to use software and hardware on a Windows or a Mac operating system. The I Can Animate software has recently been made Windows compatible and we are arranging for copies of both types to be available at the workshop.
Will there be a charge for the workshop?
SWGfL has budgeted for Oscar Stringer's training so that is free of charge. Each event will be given £250 towards the venue hire and lunch by SWGfL. As this may not cover costs, local authorities may make a charge to attendees to cover the cost of the event. This will vary across different LAs and events.
When do the workshops run to/from?
The workshops start at 09:30 and finish at around 16:00.
