This is a new African Drumming module from the producers of the very highly thought of Virtual Javanese Gamalan, and allows
KS2/3/4 learners to explore the exciting music of the Ewe people from Ghana.
As they develop rhythmic material, learners listen, play and evaluate, using ICT to capture, change and combine the sounds. This fabulous resource allows the teachers and learners to engage with this exciting element of music.
The class could compose together or in groups and combine the sections to perform and evaluate. It gives you support with background information and quizzes on the Ewe culture and their drums, including the Kidi and the Atsimevu. The link with dance is made obvious and the resource makes great use of a video of dancers.
The module explores the exciting music of the Ewe people from Ghana. Using the QWERTY keyboard of a regular PC or Macintosh workstation the user will be able to take part in a ‘virtual’ ensemble performance of Gahu, one of the most popular forms of dance-drumming. Strong links to dance will be featured, and the cultural context of the music can be explored. In addition, using step by step instructions, it will be possible to compose a piece of dance-drumming which can be saved as an audio file.
Features in this module:
