Psychologist, writer and media personality
Professor Tanya Byron is widely known for her work regarding child behaviour and has delivered reputable work reviewing harmful and inappropriate material (for children) in video games and on the internet. She also works at the BBC presenting programmes on child behaviour, science and current affairs.
About the keynote: At E-Safety Live '09 Tanya Byron provided an in depth summary of the key comments and recommendations in The Byron Review: Safer Children in a Digital World, and covered E-Safety from the perspective of child development.
Bronwen Lacey
Director for Children and Young People's Services, Plymouth City Council
Bronwen Lacey has spent thirty years in education management and has been an adviser to the DfES on Early Years education and a member of a government think tank on developments in Education Management
About the keynote: Bronwen Lacey as Director of Plymouth Children Services and chair of the Plymouth Safeguarding Children Board analysed the issues and challenges she faces; and explained how she approaches E-Safety within these roles.
Leslie Haddon
ICT Researcher for London School of Economics
Dr Leslie Haddon is a senior researcher and part-time lecturer in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics. His work focuses on the social shaping and consumption of ICTs. He has worked on various international projects including coordination of the EU Kids Online Project.
About the keynote: Dr Leslie Haddon provided the latest academic research on E-Safety and provided a review and analysis of the definitive European research in this area.
Stephen Balkam
FOSI (Family Online Safety Institute)
Stephen Balkam is currently the Founder and CEO of the Family Online Safety Institute. FOSI’s mission is to make the online world safer for kids and their families. Prior to FOSI, Stephen was the Founder and CEO of the Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA).
About the keynote: Stephen Balkam compared the responses of the UK with those of the international community, and highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of the current British position.
John Carr
Children's Charities Coalition on Internet Safety
John Carr is one of the world’s leading authorities on children’s and young people’s use of the internet and related new technologies. He has lectured and written extensively on this issue and has been consulted by a wide range of internet companies.
