A. E-Safeguarding – The big picture translated at local level

Ruth Hammond has been responsible for developing BECTA's advice relating to Internet Safety; representing BECTA on the Home Secretary’s Task Force on Child Protection on the Internet - now the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS). She has also recently collaborated with the TDA and Childnet International.


About the seminar: 
Ruth Hammond's seminar provided an overview of the E-Safeguarding scene and gave practical advice to implement within the organisation which you represent, translating the big picture to local level.


Fiona LennoxFiona Lennox, Policy Executive, Media Literacy, OFCOM 
B. Media literacy

Fiona is responsible for developing OFCOM’s comprehensive programme of media literacy research and chairs the Digital Participation Consortium metrics working group. Fiona continues to be one of the UK's leading experts on media literacy research.


About the seminar:
The workshop presented some of the key research findings from the array of OFCOM publications and conclusions. To complement this, the workshop also highlighted relevant threads from some of the forums and networks that OFCOM manage and operate.


Helen PennHelen Penn, Child Exploitation & Online Protection Centre (CEOP)
C. Children and the role of technology in sexualisation, addiction and bullying:
a practical guide to protecting young people

Helen has worked extensively in child protection and the internet safety arena both in the UK and the developing world. She also lead on the development of an Education programme for the Virtual Global Taskforce and worked on the creation of CEOP’s Thinkuknow agenda.


About the seminar:
This session aimed to shed a light into the world of young people and technology, the risks they face and how the child protection community can mitigate those risks and help young people to enjoy the virtual worlds safely. 


Will GardnerWill Gardner, Childnet International
D. Implementing Childnet Resources

Will Gardner is CEO at Childnet International. Will is a member of the new UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS), and has given advice to a range of industry players and governments on issues relating to internet safety.

About the seminar: this seminar presented a range of Childnet resources including the new cyberbullying guidance on supporting school staff; produced by Childnet for the DCSF and the recently launched Know IT All for Primary Schools resource.
