Working with sound
creatively can open up all sorts of possibilites and is great fun.
For this project
all you need is a MiniDisc or other portable recording device and a
reasonable quality microphone.
Students are asked
to acquire sound from a variety of sources. These include their own
voices, music, industrial sounds, rural noises or just people in the
street.
This could be themed
with some key questions, such as 'what do you like about living in...?'
Once the sounds
have been collected, they are logged and the process of editing begins.
The editing is done using sound software.
The task is to create
a one minute sound collage using a variety of sounds. It is possible
to develop this project over several sessions.
Alternatively, the
project can be adapted to develop a radio jingle for a radio station.
