STEP 6 - Saving the sound

There are a variety of sound formats for saving your sound. The most common format on the PC is WAVE which uses the suffix .wav. On the Apple Mac WAVE files can also be read but the more common file format is AIFF (Audio Information File Format) which uses the .aif suffix.

A number of additional file formats occur on the PC and are shown in SoundForge XP when you go to save as (see below).

WAVE files will play in Video for Windows. On the Apple Mac WAVE files will play in the Quicktime Player as well as AVI and AIFF files.

Having saved your files on the computer, it is possible to record them back to MiniDisc or cassete simply by connecting the device to the speaker port of your computer.

It is also possible to upload your sound files to the internet as part of a website. Go to the next step to see how this can be done.
