Corpus Christi School

The school identified the fact that the school grounds needed looking at and developing. Angie Larkins the schools environment co-ordinator, staff and governors decided that an area containing some ponds should be fenced off and developed as an environmental area which could be used by the school during curriculum work.
The School then held a School Grounds Day. During this day the children made suggestions about what they would like in the environmental area and in the wider school grounds. They decided that they would like more quiet areas, more seating, playground markings and games, more plants and more ponds. The staff also discussed during a staff meeting what sort of playground markings they would like.
Practical work began with the environmental area being fenced off. Bulbs were planted as well as wildlife friendly shrubs and trees, many of which were donated by nurseries and parents. The schools environment club did much of the work.
The school is now looking towards purchasing a composter and water butts. Staff are already making use of the area for curriculum work and playground markings.
Angie - the Green Team co-ordinator assembled the Green Team. The team comprises 12 people including 3 governors, 3 teachers, a parent, caretaker, 4 children 2 from y5 and 2 from y6 all of which had been a member of the original environment club.
Angie has drawn up an Action Plan to be presented to the Green Team. During the meeting responsibilities will be delegated, and how the actions will be done. She will then report back to the staff during a meeting on what the scheme will mean to them.
