Altar tomb outside Kinson Church

The tower of Kinson church is said to have been used for the storage of smuggled casks. There is damage to the parapet and coping stones which experts think may be due to the friction of ropes used in hauling the heavy casks up to the top of the tower. The altar tomb in the foreground is believed to have been used as a smuggler’s hide. It is thought that the damaged parts of the slab and sides were caused by the people using a crow bar to lever open the tomb.
