Bathing in sea water was believed to be
very good for your health in the 19th century. King George
III started a trend that was copied by many rich people who
had the time and money to do so. Bathing could and did take
place in the sea but sea water baths meant that this could
happen when the weather was not so good or even in the winter
in hot baths. This newspaper article is saying that the hot
and cold sea water baths meant that Torquay now had
everything needed to be a healthy watering place.
