This source shows how a famous person can affect the development of a place. Many people came to Torbay to see Napoleon Bonaparte, the French emperor who had been defeated in 1815 by the Duke of Wellington. Napoleon was held prisoner on the ship “Bellerephon” in Torbay for a few days. Notice that people travelled long distances to see the emperor.
