This is one of the earliest pictures on the site and provides a useful point of comparison for later pictorial sources. It could be used as the first of a sequence which pupils might paste into a word processor to be part of an account of Torquays development in the 19th century. The Cary family opposed the building of a coast road as it would spoil their views and allow people to get close to their home.
