Notice the houses of the wealthy, particularly those on the hills behind the harbour. Why would wealthy people want to stay or live in Torquay? Use other sources to find out what features of the area were attractive to visitors.
Notice the boats in the harbour. Are
they all sailing boats? Is the harbour busy? The harbour was
used partly by fishermen and partly for international and
coastal trade. Before the coming of the railway, wealthy
visitors would arrive by sea on steam ships from
London.
