Aunt Belle provides a useful alternative view on several aspects of life in Torquay during the winter of 1892-93. There is a good opportunity here for pupils to consider the reliability of this source. Belle seems to have no particular axe to grind and is writing for her private diary with no eye on publication. She also spent a considerable time in the resort. There is no “right” answer here but rather a chance to discuss the issue of the reliability of sources in history.
