Census data provides detailed information on the people living in every household in every street in the country. This includes names, relationships within the household, whether people were married or not, peoples ages, jobs and where they were born. Look at the Rank, Profession or Occupation column . Can you find any strange or unusual jobs? How many of the people living in Vaughan Parade were servants? What proportion of the people were from outside Devon? How many visitors were recorded by the census? How does this compare with the number recorded in 1851? Why do you think there might have been so few in 1871?
