Although this is a photograph of the fair at Paignton, the fair came to Torquay too. Other amusements that were available in Torquay at the time, were tennis, bowling, swimming and a circus. The setting up of bands was popular at seaside resorts too. Torquay set out to promote itself as a quiet resort for the more discerning visitor and this continued into the 20th century.
