There is an opportunity here to ask pupils to list and investigate the differences between the needs of the residents of Vaughan Parade and Park Hill. The census material can be used to identify the various occupations of people living in Vaughan Parade, for example in 1891. Pupils could use information books and online/CD encyclopaedias to investigate the differences between working as a servant in Vaughan Parade in a middle class or commercial household and in a wealthy house such as one of those on Park Hill. What chores would they have been expected to carry out and what would have been their living conditions? What leisure time would they have had and how would they have spent it?
