Local people's views of invalids coming to Torquay were mixed. On the one hand, this was a logical consequence of citing Torquay's mild winter climate as an attraction and invalids stayed in the town often for the whole winter. On the other hand, some visitors were put off by the large number of invalids to be seen in Torquay at times. In persuasive writing on the merits of holidaying in Torquay, pupils would need to be careful how they handled this issue.
