This is taken from a booklet of extracts about Torquay from newspapers in different parts of the country. It sets out some of the attractions which might encourage people to visit. How many can you find?

Torquay is being promoted as the place for those who appreciate a restful and quiet place. The town did its best to maintain this rather up-market image. Notice how the winter is referred to as Torquay’s busiest time. This was when the wealthy came to spend the winter in the mild climate. The newspaper article though is trying to encourage people to come in the summer when prices for hotels etc were lower. This is the opposite of the situation today.
