This is a good example from a book full of favourable newspaper coverage of Torquay’s attractions. Pupils might consider how this affects what this evidence can bear. It is in effect the resort promoting itself and questions might be raised as to whether the climate was that good, the hotels all palatial etc. Pupils might be given the task of creating a piece of text of their own promoting Torquay as an up-market destination. What features might they extol? What aspects of other more down-market resorts might they disparagingly say that Torquay did not have? Some opportunities here for using information texts, encyclopaedias, both CD and books etc.
