This is a photograph from close to the end of the 19th century and provides a useful point of comparison for earlier pictorial sources. It clearly shows the Princess Gardens and Princess Pier behind. It could be used as one of a sequence which pupils might paste into a word processor to be part of an account of Torquay’s development in the 19th century. Vaughan Terrace, for which there are census data on this site, is the block in the centre of the photo.
