The development of a learning Platform appropriate for your school, may be one of the most important strategic planning decisions that can be made.

Most Local Authority schools in the South West will have access to SWGfL Merlin which may provide an adequate solution and meet requirements set by the DCFS such as:

  • Access to personalised learning space
  • Parental access
  • Management Information Systems access

Additional information can be found in the SWGfL Merlin sections of this website.

For schools that already have a Learning Platform in place, SWGfL Merlin can provide added functionality and interoperability, allowing for simplified access to learning and teaching content outside of school.

This website will support key stakeholders in the process of understanding and engaging in Learning Platforms.

Whatever your role in school, you will find appropriate and useful information by clicking on the sections at the top of this page:

School Leaders and Governors - focuses on strategic devopment, change management and implementation of a Learning Platform, discusses the responsibility of governors in the process and points to information and links that will be useful from a governors or school leaders perspective.

Support Staff - is for those supporting learning including classroom assistants and support workers and focuses on how Learning platforms can be used in a range of contexts including SEN.

Governors and Community - Teachers - looks at how a learning Platform can be used from a Learning and Teaching perspective to benefit children beyond the classroom.

ICT Technicians - looks at the implications of implementing a Learning Platform on systems and infrastructure and the role of technicians in supporting the strategic process.

Parents - examines ways in which parents can benefit from Learning Platforms, support their children and become part of the School Community.

We are always interested to hear about your own experiences and suggestions of resources that can be included in this website that can be of benefit to others. Please e-mail us at enquiries@swgfl.org.uk with links, suggestions and feedback.
